Oral Cancer Screenings

Your Guide to Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral cancer can be identified early through an annual screening exam at our Redlands dental practice. Approximately 30,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed each year, and one American dies from oral cancer every hour of every day.

What to expect during your oral cancer screening

The American Cancer Society recommends a yearly check for all people over 40 years of age and every three years for people between 20 and 39 years of age.

The visual oral cancer screening is simple, quick, and comfortable. Bonanza general dentists or one of our dental hygienists will examine the roof and floor of your mouth, the upper and lower gums, the cheeks, the lips, the throat, and the tongue for white or red patches that require additional follow up. We can also use the VELscope, a fast, painless tool that shines a blue light into the mouth to look for potential trouble spots that aren’t visible to the eye.

Oral cancer is 90% curable when found early, so schedule an oral cancer exam with our office today!
